Recognition Partnership Visa

If the German recognition authority determines your degree only partially matches the German equivalent, you will undertake adaptation measures (training, exams) while working. The visa is specifically designed to allow you to work while you complete these gap-filling requirements.

The initial permit is issued for 12 months. However, because recognition procedures and adaptation training can be lengthy, the permit can be extended up to a maximum total duration of **3 years**.

Before this reform, workers faced severe administrative friction: they had to wait months or years in their home country for the ZAB or Chambers of Commerce to process their degree recognition before they could even apply for the visa. The Recognition Partnership inverts this: you enter Germany immediately and start working, deferring the bureaucratic recognition process to happen *after* you are already integrated economically.
