Frequently Asked Questions
Can I work while looking for a job?
Yes. While on a job seeker permit after finishing studies in Norway, you generally have the right to work part-time or full-time in any position while searching for skilled employment.
What happens if I find a job?
Once you secure a skilled job offer meeting the salary thresholds (NOK 522k+), you must immediately apply for a 'Skilled Worker' permit. You can usually start working while the permit is processed.
Is this permit renewable?
No. The job seeker permit is a one-time, 12-month extension. If you do not find a skilled job within this period, you must leave Norway.
Can I apply for this if I studied outside Norway?
Generally, no. The 'Job Seeker' permit is primarily reserved for Norwegian alumni. Third-country nationals who studied abroad must secure a job offer *before* moving to Norway.
Do I get access to welfare?
No. You are not eligible for social security or unemployment benefits during the search period.
